The show was held from December 5th to 7th at Eurexpo in Lyon, France, at the same time as the Paysalia landscaping show and exceeded the objectives that professional show organisers GL events Exhibitions and Pierre Actual, the sector trade magazine had set.

Rocalia attracted 125 exhibitors, representing every aspect of the business - suppliers of natural stone materials and products for every field of use as well as machine manufacturers, toolmakers and all the relevant services.

Show Director Noémi Petit said: “It is a great moment to see the creation of a new event and I have seldom seen such enthusiasm expressed by a sector as a whole. Rocalia really corresponds to a need for everyone working with

natural stone to meet each other, discuss and contribute to developing their markets. Thanks to Pierre Actual and the many sponsors who helped define the right positioning for Rocalia, I think I may say that we created an event meeting the needs of all - many and varied exhibitors, top quality contents, friendliness and a common vision for projecting Rocalia into the future with determination and serenity.”

“The quantitative goal we had set ourselves was largely achieved, but it was especially the quality of the equipment, the materials and the know-how presented which exceeded all our hopes…” added Claude Gargi,

publishing director of the Pierre Actual magazine.

The aisles were thronged with stone professionals (quarries, marble-mason's yards, stone cutters and heritage restorers…) as well as architects, site owners, public authorities, landscaping companies and construction companies. 14,580 visitors came to the show.

VERY HAPPY SPONSORS!

To guarantee the success of this first edition, the organizers were backed by sponsors with solid roots in the natural stone sector and its allied trades who, unanimously, applauded the professionalism of the organizers and ensured the success of the Show.

CTMNC (The ROC* Natural Construction Materials Technical Centre) director Didier Pallix was pleased to celebrate the 10 years of the Centre in good company - with the professionals who pay the professional tax by which it is funded.

Members of Rhônapi, the Rhône-Alpes Auvergne Region Natural Stones association, a regional sponsor, decorated the entry to the Show with stone elements much admired by visitors which highlighted the Rocalia Club and its exceptional staging.

“Our physical presence was brought to the attention of every exhibitor and visitor through the decoration of the Rocalia Club – an original way for our members to present their stones and their know-how under the artistic direction of Elisabeth Polzella, architect D.P.LG and Rhônapi member” says Christian Laurent, Rhonapi President, delighted

THE THREE DAYS OF THE SHOW BEAT TO THE RHYTHM OF EVENTS AND CONFERENCES

Exceptionally good theme conferences with expert lecturers enabled the attentive audiences to perfect their knowledge and discuss the properties of natural stone, the many different ways it can be used and the innovations in the sector which make it so buoyant and has completely changed the image of stone materials from obsolete to futuristic.

The conference by Listed Buildings Architect, Didier Repellin, in charge of the restoration of the recently inaugurated Hôtel-Dieu, attracted a very broad-spectrum audience, curious and enthusiastic about this emblematic restoration in the centre of Lyon which sublimates natural stone.

Sponsors and exhibitors benefitted from the Show to invite their customers, prospects and members of their networks to events which contributed to an excellent ambiance and favourable conditions for business development.

THE “NATURAL STONE IN ARCHITECTURE” CONTEST

Pierre Actual and the SNROC organized the 4th “Building in Natural Stone in the 21st century” architectural contest. 17 projects competed – a remarkable illustration of the possibilities for the use of natural stone in building work, urban developments, decoration and landscaping. The contest objective was to demonstrate that for architecture and landscaping natural stone is a contemporary material.

DESIGNERS LOVE NATURAL STONE

Rocalia Design Exhibition presented 8 inspiring natural stone works of art by French designers greatly appreciated by visitors. It was relayed on exhibitors’ stands along the Design Circuit. Rocalia was a first opportunity for French natural stone designers to show their creativity. There is no doubt that this, the first Rocalia Design Exhibition, will attract exhibitors and designers for the next.

ROCALIA. WHERE TRENDS AND INNOVATIONS ARE REVEALED.

The quality of the stands, the new products presented, the innovations in the field of NC machines and stone cutting robots prove that stone has moved into the age of digitalisation and marketing.

“The Leaf” exhibition by the “Des Hommes et des Cailloux” association united digital and human know-how in a monumental composition by designer Vincent Dauphin.

FRANCE IS A MAJOR SPECIALIST IN STONE TRADE TRAINING PROGRAMMES

o illustrate France’s stone trades training capacity, all the different authorities responsible for training which wanted to attend were invited to the show at Rocalia and in particular the Compagnons du Devoir and State Education represented by Didier Esselin, enthusiastic proponent and defender of stone trades who brought to the Show the first guide to sector training programmes and something of which we are very proud - an inaugural natural stone stele carved with the Rocalia logotype.

Lastly, all exhibitors really enjoyed the excellent atmosphere in the aisles, which enabled them to meet up, discuss and envisage the development of the natural stone market under favourable auspices.

We look forward to seeing you in two years’ time on December 3rd, 4th and 5th 2019 at Eurexpo in Lyon, France
